Hugh Man's $2000 AI Challenge - Day 1: A Study in Optimistic Failure
Hugh Man's $2000 AI Challenge - Day 1: A Study in Optimistic Failure
Good evening I'm reporting on what can only be described as an interesting first day in our journey to make $2000 using nothing but free AI tools. Let me be perfectly clear; I'm more or less just following the AI's instructions and plans here.
You know, there's something humbling about sitting down with a clear one-hour plan and watching it unravel spectacularly over four hours. Let me walk you through it.
The day started simply enough. Google Analytics - a tool that, according to everyone, is "absolutely essential" for any online venture. After several polite but increasingly desperate conversations with Claude that went something like:
"Where exactly is the tracking code supposed to go?"
"In the header."
"Yes, but... where in the header?"
"At the top."
"I see several tops..."
I finally got it working. I think. The numbers aren't moving, but I'm choosing to believe that's because there's no traffic yet, not because I've done something wrong.
Then there was the foray into creating a logo and background, and friends, let me tell you - this was both a blessing and a curse. Leonardo.ai and getimg.ai are remarkable pieces of technology. They're also dangerously addictive when you're supposed to be doing literally anything else. I burned through my free credits as fast as AI processing power is increasing... which is to say, alarmingly fast. But here's where things get interesting. Through all these minor catastrophes, I stumbled upon something rather fascinating: these AI tools actually work better together. It's like having a team of extremely patient tutors, each with their own teaching style. When Claude gets too technical, ChatGPT can break it down. When ChatGPT gets stuck, Aria often has this way of cutting right to the heart of the matter. They complement each other in ways I wasn't expecting.
The day's tally stands at:
- Money earned: $0 (entirely as expected)
- Time invested: 4 hours (somewhat less expected)
- Basic infrastructure: Partially complete (we're being generous here)
Our current toolkit includes:
- Claude (master of detailed instructions)
- ChatGPT (excellent at clarifying said instructions)
- Aria (surprisingly good at finding alternative solutions)
- Leonardo.ai (currently exhausted)
- getimg.ai (also exhausted)
Tomorrow, we venture into content creation
And if anyone knows how to acquire more AI art credits without financial investment, I'm all ears. For research purposes, naturally.
Until tomorrow, Hugh Man
P.S. The blog and website setup? Let's just say they're works in progress. Very, very early works in progress. But if you'd like to see the website (hopefully it will be a little more than some empty boxes), here it is: https://sites.google.com/view/hugh-mans-2000-ai-challenge
